Hex Designs

The whimsical hex designs are available in several colors. The most popular color is deep forest green because green is a complimentary color to red barns and out buildings. It also is generally a very good color contrasting on white, cream or tan buildings as well.

The hex designs are created with the animals in silhouette because the designs are meant to be seen from a distance. Much detail work in the designs would be lost when viewed from 50 to 100 yards. The more bold and simple, straightforward designs work well outdoors.

Each hex design is copyrighted. The designs are original art pieces created here at our farm. Painted with sign painter's enamel on professional sign painter's board, the hex designs are ready to be hung indoors or outdoors upon arrival at your farm. Each design is 24 inches in diameter.

The traditional Pennsylvania Dutch hex designs painted on barns are designed for a limited number of symbols and colors all of which have specific meanings. The hex designs created here at Fancy Creek Llamas are more liberal in color usage and the animal symbols are a far cry from traditional hex designs. Some of the color meanings are authentic Pennsylvania Dutch and others are not. We have indicated with an * the authentic colors and symbols.
